New tenpin team looks set to innovate
High games bowled on Monday saw Dylan van Berkel notch up 233, followed by Theo Govender on 232 and Frik van Niekerk on 230.
AT the annual general meeting of the Amanzimtoti Tenpin Bowling Club held on Saturday, 7 December, the following committee members were elected to run the affairs of the club for 2014: Frik van Niekerk, Hennie Fouche, Stephan Sleigh, Bronwen Elbourne, Judy Bhagwandin and Ron McClatchie.
The committee met on Wednesday, 8 January to plan club activities for the year and at the outset, it looks as if many new ideas and activities are being considered.
League play commenced again on Monday, 13 January, after the year-end break and bowlers were welcomed back onto the lanes after this five-week break. Many bowlers were rusty after this layoff and it took a bit of time before arms were swinging correctly and pins falling the way they are supposed to.
The runners-up from last year’s Split Happens league were the first to hit their straps and beat last year’s winners, Shark Bite on 29 to 1 but this is just the first week of a 27 week session.

On Thursday the bowlers were becoming used to the new conditions and Morne De Wet bowled a superb 248, chased by Ricky O’Hare on 235. Bronwen Elbourne showed her class by achieving a 234 game followed by veteran Gwen Hayward on 222.
The junior league on Friday afternoon was bolstered by three ‘first time’ bowlers, Fiona Kleynhans, Monya and Miyanka Bester. The club welcomes them and wishes them happy bowling. This year the junior division will be coached and run by Bronwen Elbourne, who has represented South Africa in many countries, the most recent being Holland in 2013.
