Good turn-out at social squash league
A good social mix of newcomers and regular club members also ensures an interesting, exciting competition.

THERE was a very good turnout for this year’s Toti Squash summer league, with six teams of 12 players each vying for top honours and lovely prizes at the end of six weeks.
Every Thursday each team is allocated a specific court, so all those two teams’ players participate on the same court, which facilitates a competitive, inter-team rivalry and enhances the atmosphere and club spirit – which is what summer league is all about.
A good social mix of newcomers and regular club members also ensures an interesting, exciting competition.
The club welcomes all the newcomers and social players, and thanks them all for signing on for this competition and participating. Hopefully, after summer league, they may consider full club membership, as in so doing they will be able to carry on enjoying a social weekly game, or indeed even enter the exciting KZN squash winter league.
Several Toti teams are involved, accommodating all levels of players, and playing at home and away against other teams from the Durban, Pinetown and surrounding areas.
Back to summer league, where it really is encouraging and pleasing to see several families and children entered. For example, the Bowleys, where father Gareth plays at number two, and up against some of the top players in town. His son Luke, at 10-years-old, is playing at number 12 and being brave and competitive enough to give his adult opponents a good run for their money. This while the other son, Samuel, at 12-years-old and still in primary school yet taller than most of his adult opponents, is making his mark in the middle order of the team at number 8. Once he stops being so ‘respectful’ of his senior opponents, and is not shy or embarrassed to beat them and plays an all-out attacking game, he will win more convincingly and more often.
It was also good to see another adventurous young newcomer, Angus Wicks, who at 13-years-old, is playing hard, doing his best, and improving each week.
As one can see, Toti Squash Club is the place to be on Thursday evenings. Support the club braai, go along for a friendly game, as there are inevitably people who can’t make it each week, and their opponents are always looking for a run.
