Alf is handicap champion at ABC
Many happy returns go this week to Bob Southey, Maureen Crawford, Herman van Zyl, Frank Roden and Louis Swanepoel.
SOME exciting club competitions finals were played out at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club on Saturday afternoon.
There was a close game between Alf Bingham and Vince Phaal in the men’s handicap final, when Alf eventually triumphed with his family looking on. Well done to Vince on being a worthy runner-up.
John and Delysia Mitchley had a good win over Greg McLeod and Marion Crouch to become mixed pairs champions. The women’s drawn fours final was a very tight match in which the teams peeled going into the last end, when eventually the team of Malinki van der Westhuizen, Jane Coetzee, Maxien Barnes and Michelle Pitchers prevailed over Doreen Salmond, Val de Kok, Jackie Holdrick and Tokkie de Kock.
Another close final took place in the women’s nominated pairs with the players peeling on the 19th end. Eventually the ever-young Bobby Stewart and her partner Jennifer Greenslade beat Barbara Beamson and Jeanne Alexander by one shot. Well done to all players for providing such riveting entertainment.
Well done to Julie Sutherland and Amanda Ninow, Doreen Salmond and Marion Crouch, Jane Coetzee and Denise Bingham, Meryl Hambley and Nita Meumann, and Don Saunders and Peter Shepard who won their sections in the Port Natal pairs competition. Good bowling in the next round.
In the women’s 2-4-2 Jane Coetzee and Denise Bingham were the winners with Barbara Beamson and Heather Brown in second place. The second session was won by Maureen van der Poel and Jean Snyman, and Eileen Ambler won the 100 board.
In the men’s drawn 2-4-2 the winners were Coy Schrauwen and Cliffie Hole, with Ian Crouch and Shawn Sutherland being runners-up. The second session went to Duncan Wright and Phil Perkins.
A reminder that on Wednesday, 24 September, which is a public holiday, it is the Picardy Bazooka mixed drawn fours with tabs in. Entry form is on the board. This is in the morning and the format is two by 10 ends.
In the men’s Scroungers, Hennie (WP) van der Poel came first, with Jeff van Belkum in second place and Greg McLeod coming third. Plate A was won by Boet Els and plate B by Duncan Wright.
On Friday at the attendance draw tab 74, Mari Crichton’s number was drawn, however she was not present. Next week’s draw is worth R200. Doug Joubert once more drew a key for the key draw, but once again it did not fit. Will it be third time lucky for him, or do you fancy your chances next time? Don’t forget to buy a key. This week’s key draw winnings is around R4,600.
Ian McDonald won the 100 board.
The women’s handicap singles final will take place on Saturday, 13 September between Tokkie de Kock and Barbara Beamson; Jackie Holdrick will be marker.
Many happy returns go this week to Bob Southey, Maureen Crawford, Herman van Zyl, Frank Roden and Louis Swanepoel. Good health is wished to all members.
