Noreen, Michelle win nail-biter at ABC
Several honours board competitions were played this past week.

AT Amanzimtoti Bowling Club’s TGIF, Robyn Hutton won the 100 board.
Dave Kemp was present to collect his attendance draw winnings, so next week reverts to R100 again.
Jackie Holdrick’s key number was drawn, and in her absence Glen Scorgie tried the key, but sadly no luck. Next week’s key will be worth around R9,000.
In the penultimate round of potato trips, the team of Greg McLeod and Alec and Nicky Stirzaker remain top of the log, while Heather Brown, Bobby Henderson and Tony Darley are the leaders in plate B. The final round takes place on Friday, 6 March with everything to play for. Afterwards there will be a bring and braai so add names to the list behind the bar for pap en sous and braai space. Tokkie de Kock won the chocolate.
Several honours board competitions were played this past week. In the men’s nominated pairs, Peter Labuschagne and Neil Oberholzer beat Bill Williams and Alan McGregor; Clive Frank and Eric Klopper got the better of Willem Pelser and Alec Stirzaker; and Vince Phaal and Carl van Heerden had a good win over Glen Scorgie and Mike Pitchers.
In the second semi-final of the women’s drawn trips, Jeanne Alexander, Adrienne Robbins and Linda McGregor had an emphatic win over Robyn Hutton, Nicky Stirzaker and Lys McDonald. They will now face Heather Brown and team in the final.
In the women’s handicap singles, Jane Coetzee beat Val de Kok; Liz Morgan-Davies overcame Gaynor Snyman; Nita Meumann defeated Amanda Ninow; and Mardi Dovale got the better of Maggie Robertson.
Women’s nominated pairs got underway on Saturday, with some riveting matches being observed from the veranda. The pick of these from a spectator’s point of view was the game between Doreen Salmond and Marion Crouch against Noreen Butler and Michelle Pitchers, which went to a nail-biting finish. Although Doreen was down 6-17 after 14 ends, she and Marion fought back well, but Noreen and Michelle held on to win 21-19. Tokkie de Kock and Elmarie Young got off to a flying start against Margaret van Belkum and Gaynor Snyman, and were 19-3 up after 12 ends; however Margaret and Gaynor fought back and picked up 11 shots in the next nine ends. The final score was 22-15 to Tokkie. Stella Erasmus and Maggie Robertson defeated Talla and Lesley Stephens-Viviers; and Julie Sutherland and Amanda Ninow beat Pam Chalder-Royle and Jenny Delport.
Despite the heat, barflies was well attended on Sunday. The victors were Glen Scorgie, Heather Brown, Trevor Zulch and Geoff Watson. In second place were Herbert Hofmann, Val de Kok, Ed Barnes and Gerry Coleman. First session went to Barry Simpson, Bill RiIey, Trevor Dempsey and A Jones. Second session was won by Duncan Wright, Jock Meldrum, Chris van der Westhuizen and Stuart and most bowls went to Peter Labuschagne, Colin Coetzee, Mike Morris and Monica Visser.
