TWELVE members of Amanzimtoti Bowling Club took up the challenge of entering the KZN singles competition which attracts the top bowlers from the whole province.
Of the 12, Greg McLeod, Willem Pelser, Jeanne Alexander and Jane Coetzee won their sections, but were knocked out in the playoffs.
Willem and Jane lost their first round of the playoffs, and Greg and Jeanne got through to the quarter finals before losing a game. Well done to all on a fine performance at such a difficult and taxing level.
The club also appreciates members who gave up their time to act as markers and officials for these games, and the high standards they displayed, which were a credit to the club.
Congratulations also go to Elsie Walker and Nicky Stirzaker, the club’s 2015 women’s nominated pairs champions on their comfortable win over Heather Brown and Jackie Holdrick in the finals this week.
The winners of the fun Big Chicks competition on Sunday were Alf Bingham, Barry Bush, Chris van der Westhuizen and Maggie Robertson on 4+25; Lofty van Tonder, Marion Crouch, Julie Sutherland and Micky Roche were runners-up; and Tony Cam, Jock Meldrum, Guelfo Cobianchi and Margaret van Belkum came 3rd.
The winners of the first session at Big Chicks were Doug Joubert, Ian Mills, Lynn Joubert and Mike Pitchers; while second session went to Colin Coetzee, Vish Studinski, Brian Cox and Maureen Griffin. Dave Kemp, Jacqui Fouché, Leon van Rensburg and Karen Shepherd won the 13th prize and ‘most bowls’ went to Mike Groom, Jackie Holdrick, Michelle Pitchers and Debbie Groom. The whiskey draw was won by Gladys Hughes, who donated it back to the club for next month, and the wine was won by the Damagers and Guelfo Cobianchi. Grateful thanks go to Jerry Gertzen of Orange River Cellars, Gladys Hughes and Brian Pascoe for the prizes, and to Dave Gardner for the organisation.
At TGIF Glen Scorgie won the 100 board, and Jackie Holdrick’s number was drawn in the key draw. Gwyn McLeod drew the key on Jackie’s behalf as Jackie is a committee member, but it was unlucky, so the jackpot goes to R5500 for next week. Social member Doreen Botes’ tab came out in the attendance draw but as she was not present the pot will rise to R900 next week.
The club AGM and prize-giving will be held on Saturday, 19 September from 8am. Nominations for office bearers must be submitted by 5pm on Friday, 4 September. For further details of requirements for nominations etc. see the 2 notices on the secretary’s notice board and the draw for the PN pairs is now on the competitions board.
Birthday greetings go to Gerald Chalder-Royle, Dave Gardner, Bill Williams, Andrew Walker, Micky Roche and Barry Bush this week, and to all who are not in the best of health, we hope to see you back at the club again soon.
