Winkle BC club champs decided

Congratulations to everyone who celebrated their birthdays during the week.

DURING the week some entertaining club finals were played at Winklespruit Bowling Club and new 2015 club champions were crowned in several competitions.

Jeanette Els and Elmarie Young won the final in the women’s nominated 2-4-2 against Lulu Bingham and Cathy du Plooy.

In the women’s drawn 2-4-2 final, the champions are Elaine Critchlow and Sylveigh Ananiadis who beat Cathy du Plooy and Elmarie Young. In the women’s nominated pairs final, Estelle van der Merwe and Sylveigh Ananiadis were victorious against Trish Farmer and Sandy Snyman.

Some semi-final competitions were also played. In the mixed nominated 2-4-2 Martin and Elmarie Young won against Eddy and Lulu Bingham and Dries and Sandy Snyman achieved a win over Jonty Denysen and Annalie Pienaar. Martin Young and Harry van Vuuren were victorious against the team of Brian Cox and Brian Pasfield and the team of Eddie Bingham and Alan Raubenheimer in the men’s drawn 2-4-2. They will now face Bill Rawlinson and Dries Snyman in the final. In the nominated mixed pairs, the novice team of Harry and Lynette van Vuuren entertained the spectators with a nail-biting finish when they proved their worth and won with a one-pointer picked up in the last end, against the more experienced team of Martin and Elmarie Young.

The monthly women’s Victory Kwik Spar trips were played on Thursday, 3 September. Second session winners were Pamela Chalder-Royle, Jeanette Els and Sue Welsh. Overall winners on the day were Cathy du Plooy, Elmarie Young and Sandy Snyman. The 100 board draw was won by Wilna Richter. Martie van der Walt won the spider and Denise Bingham walked away with the mystery prize.

On Saturday, 5 September the AGM was well supported. Congratulations to the 2016 committee. Mike Kruger was re-elected as president with Di Kruger as vice-president, Trish Farmer as secretary, Sylveigh Ananiadis as treasurer and Harry van Vuuren as competition secretary. Andre Gelderblom, Brian Farmer and Norma Raath were re-elected as additional committee members.

Diarise the following: Social bowls on Friday, 11 September at 2pm and Wednesday, 16 September at 1.30pm. Friday, 11 September – night game at 6pm. Indicate your availability on the players list on the notice board. Saturday, 12 September – club competitions at 9am. Check the draws on the notice board. Sunday, 13 September – Steve Evenwel mixed 2-4-2 at 9am. Indicate your availability on the players list on the board.
