The 18-year-old leg spinner attended Durban High School and will be studying financial management online while he plays cricket in the UK this year.

Jared credited Australian legend Shane Warne as his inspiration for becoming a leg spinner, an unpredictable and often game-changing asset for cricket captains.

“I’ve always enjoyed playing cricket, since I was very young, and found a love for it when I was nine years old. I made the KZN U11, U12 and U13 teams and recently played for the Dolphins Colts. I am a bowling all-rounder and I bowl leg spin. My parents supported me from young up until now with cricket and helped equip me with the best coaching and equipment so that I could perform to my full potential. I’m very fortunate to have a brother who shares my interest in cricket – we would play all the time,” said Jared.

In his free time, he likes to go fishing. He advises those just starting out to be patient and to put in the hard work so that you may reap the rewards later as your chance will eventually come. He added, “In matric last year, I had one of the best seasons in my career which helped me get recognition from people and especially the Dolphins Academy. I am very privileged to be part of such an amazing environment and it has definitely helped me learn and grow as a cricketer.”

Director of cricket for the Amanzimtoti Cricket Club, Frank Ferreira, explained that Jared has been coming through the ranks from junior cricket and shows great potential, especially as leg spin bowling is regarded as one of the most challenging skills in cricket.

“He is still finding his feet as a young player in senior cricket, but has already shown that he belongs,” concluded Ferreira.
