Amanzimtoti Cricket Club conquers eighth round match-up

Following a solid win on the road, Amanzimtoti Cricket Club will next host Rhythm DHSOB on February 2.

THE Amanzimtoti Cricket Club’s (ACC) first team beat Hillary-Malvern Cricket Club’s first team at Glenwood High School in round eight of the KZN Castle Premier League last Sunday.

ACC scribe, Peter Lonie, set the stage for the match, “ACC captain, Tegan Naidoo, won the toss and elected to bat first. Despite the early loss of a wicket, the visitors piled on the runs thanks largely to a splendid century from Tylor Trenoweth (100) and a well-constructed half-century from Luc Kanda (72).”

Trenoweth took the fight to Hillary-Malvern’s bowlers in the first 10-over power play and once the fielding restrictions were lifted, manipulated the field, finding low-risk singles with ease. The end of the first innings saw ACC’s score sitting at a comfortable 237/8.

The visiting side made it difficult for Hillary-Malvern, restricting them to 30/3 in the first 10-over power play, with Muhammad Khan (3/21) bagging all three wickets.

Lonie added, “The introduction of spin once again brought wickets with Jarryd Michaux (3/22), Gareth Lonie (2/28) and Dylan Labuschagne (2/29) snapping up the last seven wickets. The last wicket fell with the score on 162, handing ACC a 75-run win with a bonus point to remain second in KZN Castle Premier League.”

The formidable ACC first team’s next fixture pits them against Rhythm DHSOB at the Amanzimtoti Oval on February 2.
