Young talent on display in Umgababa
Coach Khanyisani Msomi of Jozi FC said tournaments like the one they were participating in help nurture grasroots talent.
THE Mnini Sports Centre in Umgababa came alive with soccer action when 12 teams that play in southern Durban’s local football associations participated in the U12 Youth Tournament on September 13.

The teams came from areas that included Umkomaas, Ilfracombe, Umgababa, and Magabheni. Matches were played on two fields in a knock-out format, culminating in a final clash that was played by the Highlanders Football Academy and Umkomaas Sports Development FC.
Coach Khanyisani Msomi of Jozi FC said tournaments like these help nurture grassroots talent.
“The players are 12-years-old and younger, but they are showing immense talent. This is why we are guiding them because we want them to channel all the energy they have into something productive,” said Msomi.
In the end, the trophy was lifted by Umkomaas Sports Development FC after defeating Highlanders Football Academy 1-0. Individual awards were also given to those who showed exceptional talent.
