Just in: Four suspects killed in a shoot-out with police near Merebank

It is alleged that the suspects opened fire on the police, and the police retaliated, killing four suspects.

FOUR men have been shot dead in a shoot-out with the police on the M4 Southern freeway near the Old Airport this evening.

Spokesperson for ALS Paramedics Garrith Jamieson said the M4 from Merebank southbound has been closed.

Paramedics arrived on the scene to find SAPS in attendance and the road closed off. Paramedics were shown to a vehicle where four men were found having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies. Paramedics assessed the men, however, all of them were declared deceased on the scene.

“No police officers were injured in the shoot-out,” said Jamieson.

At this stage the exact events leading to the shoot-out are unknown, however, all necessary authorities were in attendance and will be investigating further.

The KZN police could not be reached for comment at the time of publishing.
