Ward 64 residents urged to remain on guard as cable theft increases

Most of the theft occurs during early morning hours when people are sleeping.

WARD 64 residents are being urged to remain vigilant as cable theft has increased over the past few weeks.

Jackie Goncalves, Montclair CPF chairperson, said the theft of cables or any form of vandalism to infrastructure has become very common in the community.

“The residents of Ward 64 have been forced to go without electricity for hours due to the theft of cables. It is also impacting the eThekwini Municipality which has to spend a lot of money to do repairs. We are now asking that the community be the eyes and ears for the police and CPF. We are aware that most of the theft occurs between 02:00 and 04:00, when most people are sleeping.

“But, we ask that the community be vigilant and check outside their windows as often as possible. We are aware that it is two men dressed in full black or wearing blue overalls, carrying a backpack, who are stealing the cables. If you see any such suspicious activities on your road, especially at an odd hour, call the police or send a message in the CPF WhatsApp group. It is only if we work together that can we eradicate crime in our community,” she said.
