Wentworth police raises awareness on carjacking

Wentworth police held a crime awareness initiative in Merebank in a bid to educate the public about the recent crime trends in the area.

MEMBERS of the Wentworth visible policing stationed at the Wentworth police conducted an awareness campaign at the Merebank shopping centre today (July 4).

They distributed pamphlets containing information guides to the shoppers.

Police spokesperson in Wentworth Captain Mbuso Gumede said, “The focus was on theft of motor vehicles which are being stolen, which is showing a slight increase.

“The police advised the members of the public to ensure that alarm systems are activated. We also advised and urged them to ensure that the vehicle doors are locked, to avoid remote jamming.”

The community safety, carjacking awareness, extortion flyers, child, and girls safety guides were also distributed to the motorists/ shoppers.

Lieutenant Colonel Clive Myburg, station Vispol Commander, was also part of this awareness or police visibility.
