Police thwart planned business robbery in Clairwood

Police from Montclair police station acted on information received about a suspicious vehicle driving around in Clairwood.

FOUR men were arrested for an attempted business robbery in Clairwood recently. The suspects were arrested before they could carry out the planned attack on one of the businesses in Clairwood.

According to police, Montclair officers acted on an anonymous tip-off from a local businessman who reported a suspicious vehicle driving around the area.

The businessman suspected that the occupants were planning to commit a robbery at another business. Officers patrolling the vicinity located the vehicle and approached the four occupants.

A police source told the SUN, “Upon further investigation, police discovered two unlicensed firearms and several rounds of ammunition inside the car. A check on the weapons later revealed that they were linked to a separate case under investigation in Sydenham.”

The suspects were taken to the Brighton Beach police station, where they were charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and further charges related to the planned robbery are expected to follow.

Police commended the community for its co-operation and urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activity.

“We encourage the public to remain vigilant and to report any information that can help prevent crime,” said the Montclair police.
