The Bluff CPF helps police tackle crime

A member of The Bluff CPF spotted a vehicle parked inside a property in Wentworth and immediately called for backup.

THE members of the Bluff CPF have been hailed for working hard in collaboration with the police to root out crime in Brighton Beach.

On November 24, the CPF members apprehended a suspect believed to be involved with a gang responsible for a series of thefts from motor vehicles in Brighton Beach.

The CPF member spotted a vehicle parked inside a property in Wentworth and immediately asked for backup. The car was believed to be the same one reportedly used by suspects in a series of thefts from other vehicles.

The message immediately circulated and members went in search of the vehicle.

Chairperson of the Bluff CPF Sidney Govindsamy said, “A white polo hatch was used in a theft out of motor vehicle in the Brighton Beach area, taking valuables as well as purchasing items with the stolen bank cards.

Members involved in the operation were:

  • Durban Metro Police K9 unit
  • Brighton Beach police
  • Private security companies
  • Bluff CPF

“Members were able to locate the suspect at another location in Wentworth, where they successfully detained the suspect,” he said.

Sergeant Sduduzo Makhaye of Brighton Beach police station said a case of theft from motor vehicle was opened. The suspect appeared at the Durban Magistrate’s Court and is due to reappear in court soon.
