Two arrested in Wentworth police raid

The police conducted a joint two-day operation in Wentworth aimed at eradicating criminal activities in the area.

TWO individuals were arrested for separate cases during a joint operation between members of the Metro Police Street Crime and Wentworth Crime Prevention unit on March 20 and 21 in Wentworth.

The police first executed a search warrant at a house in Stower Road, where a 31-year-old woman was arrested for possession of drugs.

Drugs such as cocaine and Methcathinone (CAT) were recovered and a large quantity of cough syrups, ‘Xanax’ and Rohypnol were also found.

A source told Southlands SUN that these medicines are sold to teenagers and young adults.

“These are dangerous and addictive medicines. The street value of the drugs and medicines is approximately R52 000. She is expected to appear in court on March 23,” said the source.

Another individual was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Hime Street flats on March 21.

The suspect is an 18-year-old who was arrested after he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with the serial number filed off.

“He was charged for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He is due to appear in court today (March 23),” said the source.

Police spokesperson in Wentworth, Captain Mbuso Gumede said Vispol commander Lieutenant Colonel Cheryl Pillay commended the members of the Metro Police Street Crime and Wentworth Crime Prevention unit for their swift action.
