K9 unit gets greenlight to move to sports club on the Bluff
The unit will occupy three hectares of the nine hectares of land. Sporting activity will so continue.
AFTER much deliberation and ongoing meetings, the Metro K9 Unit has secured its spot at the Harlequins Sports Club on the Bluff.
The Metro police dog unit’s intention to move to the Garcin Place property had sparked debate among residents since news of the move spread, a few months ago.
Ward 66 councillor, Zoë Solomon, said, however, that the sporting facility would not close.
“We are glad to have finally passed the units move into our beautiful valley. The dogs will come from Isipingo and Montclair and will have a new and amazing space to run and be trained and have new kennels.
“The offices should be container conversions, but the main thing is the dogs will be happy and the department will be effective in important serious crime prevention. We are thrilled that the move will not affect the codes of sport played at the club,” said Solomon.

Solomon said she was happy that the situation ended well.
“Metro has only one dog at the moment. New premises, kennels, and the environment will bring about the change and the progression the dog unit needs.
“Although the dog unit will not police the Bluff and will be dedicated to solving hijacking cases, airport duties, and work to infiltrate crime rings, we look forward to sharing our space with them,” said Solomon.
The unit will occupy three hectares of the nine hectares of land.
