Man accused of killing Merebank barber to apply for bail
He last appeared in court on November 3, and was remanded into custody at Westville Prison until his next appearance.
A PAKISTANI national accused of killing well-known Merebank barber, Bassat Ali, is expected to apply for bail in the Durban Magistrates Court on November 21.
Azeem Munawer, 41, of Merebank, was arrested and charged for the murder of 22-year-old Ali, who worked at one of his salons in the Merebank Shopping Centre.
Ali, who was also a Pakistani national, was allegedly kidnapped, assaulted and stabbed multiple times in his chest and back, at his home in Ajmer Road on October 24.

Munawer, who is believed to also have lived at the same premises, was arrested a few hours later.
He last appeared in court on November 3, and was remanded into custody at Westville Prison until his next appearance.

Wentworth police spokesperson, Captain Mbuso Gumede, said officers from the Vispol unit received reports of a man being stabbed in Ajmer Road, at about 19:40.
“Officers responded immediately to the scene. On arrival, they were informed that the victim had already been transported to the hospital and had succumbed to his injuries on arrival.
“Detectives arrested the suspect at about 22:40. The victim was accused of stealing a large amount of cash,” said Gumede.

Gumede said police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information that can assist with their investigation to come forward.
