Another victim in Wentworth murder suicide dies

THE SECOND victim in the gruesome murder suicide which gripped the community of Wentworth last week, has died.

Romano Pienaar, 17, who was shot along with Shanice Tamaine Smith and Ronald Majority, by a man who opened fire at them along Woodville Road, on July 2, succumbed to his injuries on July 11.

While Smith, a mother of three, was declared deceased on arrival at hospital, Majority is still recovering, but has a bullet lodged in his cheek.

The shooter, identified as Jose Craig Ogle, fled the Wentworth area shortly after he opened fire on residents and according to KZN police, he was spotted in the Springfield Park area, and he allegedly then hijacked a vehicle in Greenwood Park.

“He drove back to Wentworth, where he abandoned the vehicle. He then fled on foot back to Major Calvert Road, where Metro Police were standing off. On seeing the police, he put his firearm to his head and shot himself. The motive for shooting is unknown,” said eThekwini District police spokesperson, Captain Carmen Rhynes.

“He had undergone two operations. He was transferred from King Edward Hospital to Chief Albert Luthuli Hospital and then taken back to King Edward Hospital, where he was on a ventilator.

“Although his lungs were collapsing, he fought for his life for a few days, but sadly lost his fight. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. We cannot believe that we will never see him again,” said Helen.
