Council approves budget to upgrade Anstey’s Beach on The Bluff

The Capital Improvement Budget will be used to uplift public spaces on The Bluff, including the refurbishment of the Anstey’s paddling pond.

ANSTEY’S Beach is set to receive a major upgrade following the approval of the Capital Improvement Budget (CIB) at the recent Durban council meeting.

Ward 66 councillor, Zoë Solomon, said the CIB was afforded to a councilor once a year, and she decided to choose the upgrade of the Anstey’s paddling pond as there were concerns over the deteriorating conditions at the pond and its dilapidated structures.

“The CIB is a fixed figure of R3 million every year. It’s a pre-approved budget set for each financial year. It must be spent on a visible project that uplifts the community. This year, I have decided to focus on uplifting the area on The Bluff, specifically the beautiful Anstey’s Beach paddling pond,” said Solomon.

Solomon said that while eThekwini was battling to contain the spread of E.coli in seawater, it was vitally important to keep the ponds and its facilities in a pristine condition for families to enjoy in summer.

The upgrades of the Anstey’s paddling pond will include the refurbishment of ablution facilities as well as the seating around the perimeter area which were built in the 70s.

“We have already had our first engagement with structural engineers,” she said.
