Youth clear three tons of trash in massive clean-up

YouthMindset Empowerment along with MetPac-SA hosted a massive clean-up in Yellowwood Park, clearing three tons of waste.

YOUTHMINDSET Empowerment, in collaboration with MetPac-SA, hosted a  community clean-up campaign across Yellowwood Park, Woodhaven, Montclair, and Woodlands recently. The clean-up drew around 40 volunteers and saw three tons of trash cleared from public spaces and residential streets.

This drive is part of YouthMindset Empowerment’s  environmental campaign aimed at encouraging civic responsibility and sustainability at a community level. Co-founder Samkelo Sibiya said the clean-up was meant to show that “change starts with us” and to promote active participation in caring for the environment.

Volunteers  picked up and sorted trash, then hauled it off to Back to Life Recycling to be recycled. Besides beautifying the community, the event brought people together, with residents taking part positively, some even offering refreshments and support.

“This is what it looks like when a community comes together to make a difference. Our aim is not only to clean up, but to educate and motivate,” said Sibiya.

He encouraged others to get involved in YouthMindset Empowerment’s next clean-up, an eco-adventure campaign to be hosted at the Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve on May 31.
