Jose Webster (29) was convicted for a robbery with a firearm on Burgers Road in Wentworth on January 31, 2024.

Spokesperson for Wentworth police station Captain Mbuso Gumede said the members of the Visible Policing had received a complaint about a man being robbed by two suspects.

“He was armed with a firearm and the other with a knife. Webster, who was armed with a firearm, held the victim at gunpoint and robbed him of his cellphone, ID card and bank card.

“The suspect who had left the scene prior to the arrival of the police was well known by the informant, and the victim. The victim alleged there were two suspects, one in possession of the firearm, another in possession of a knife. He told the police that he was robbed of his cellphone at gunpoint. Bank card and cash were also taken,” said Gumede.

Gumede said the members of Visible Policing acted swiftly, however, upon arrival the accused had already fled from the scene.

A case of robbery was opened at the Wentworth police station.

“The docket was assigned to Detective Sergeant Sibonelo Nzama who then collected all the evidence from the victim and witnesses and investigated further,” said Gumede.

The police investigation led to Webster’s arrest on February 15, 2024 and he was charged for robbery. He made his first appearance in court on February 16, 2024.

“The witnesses were also summoned for court and were available to give evidence, which the detective officer applauded them for their presence in solving the case.
