Wentworth man dies in hospital after shooting

The victim was shot at the Major Calvert flats in Wentworth. The police are appealing to witnesses to come forward.

A YOUTH who had been shot and injured at the Major Calvert flats in Wentworth died in hospital on July 15. The victim (17) was shot while at the Major Calvert flats, however, the police have not established the motive for the killing.

Police spokesperson in Wentworth, Captain Mbuso Gumede, said members of the visible policing (Vispol) were alerted to a shooting incident.

“Upon the arrival of the police they were informed by the members of the community that the victim had been shot, and sustained serious injuries. A private vehicle had taken him to Wentworth Hospital.

“The Vispol members then proceeded to the hospital to obtain full details about the incident. However, the victim was unable to provide any information regarding what had occurred or who had shot him. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was unable to speak. The victim later succumbed to his injuries in hospital,” said Gumede.

Police in Wentworth are investigating a case of murder.

“The detectives are appealing to anyone who witnessed this shooting to come forward, and the anonymity will be guaranteed.”
