Grosvenor Girls High School started a new tradition with their fun walk and colour festival, aimed at promoting fitness in a fun way.

GROSVENOR Girls High School was a rainbow of colour and school spirit on May 9 as the school held its first ever fun walk and colour festival. The event was created to promote health, harmony and togetherness among learners.

The celebration, a first for the institution, was organised by a group of dedicated staff members and volunteers.

Senrika Eshwarduth, organiser and teacher at the school, said, “We started with a 3km fun walk on the school’s surrounding roads and ended on the school field. Metro police were also on duty. The learners were then given colour powder to mess each other as part of the colour festival.”

The fun walk ended at the school field, where the colour celebration kicked off with learners playfully throwing colour powder at each other.

She added that they want to encourage a culture of health and fitness among the young girls. “We wanted to make them understand that every movement is good movement. We also aimed to show The Bluff community that our school is filled with a new generation of learners who wish to restore the reputation of our school,” she said.

The celebration continued with a range of exciting activities, including food stalls, henna painting, a jumping castle and an energetic interclass relay, one of the day’s highlights. Eshwarduth said the event was a resounding success. “The girls had an amazing time, and we look forward to making it a new school tradition,” she said.

Eshwarduth also extend her gratitude to many of the sponsors – Lindsay Kapp of Bluff Athletic Club, Virgin Active, Fresh Produce, Yulisha Chetty, Medic Mike, Remax, Tate Nolan, Tatum Herring, Ndumiso Sibiya, Suri Eshwarduth, Siksha Singh, Valencia Chetty, Ilze du Plessis, Darren Joubert and Phillipa Sharp.

She also extended a special thanks to all supportive parents as well as the learners for making the day all the more enjoyable.
