THE final of Woodlands Bowling Club’s men’s drawn fours was played on Saturday, 17 August.
The game could have gone either way and it eventually went down to the wire.
The combination of Arthur Carlyle, Bill Hewer, Andy Cloete and Bryce Bower prevailed by a single shot over Brian Kimber, Dennis Holloway, Alan Bower and Dave Lloyd to win 19-18. Young Bryce is making a habit of beating dad Alan in a final.
As mentioned last week, Rina Harper was eliminated by Louise Larkin who eventually won the women’s section and Andy went out to Tony Bruchez, who finished fourth in the men’s section, which is some consolation to both players. The next breakfast shirts and skirts on Sunday, 25 August still has a few slots available. To enter call Arthur Carlyle on 076-588-7377.
Abie Joubert, Glen de Wildt and Mitford Holder picked the right numbers for Friday night’s meat draw and Raymond Smolas was not present for the snowball to bump the pool up to R400 next Friday night at 6pm. Be there with your membership card to have a hook in the pond. The numbers 8-9-12 produced yet another carryover in the lotto. Tthe bonus number one paid dividends to Lyndon Smith, Mike McFarland and Dixie Dix. Dave Leuchar’s name emerged first from the barrel in the Saturday swindle. He selected the sherry, only to have his name drawn again in third place to select the chicken as well. Other winners were Andy Cox, Stud Douglas, Greg Berry, George Moore, Carole Lauderdale, Dennis Tarboton, Dave Vincent and Rob de Wildt (2).
Theuns Coetzee won the raffle watch and key ring donated by Bill Dunsmuir, and Ralph Mostert picked up the R150 for the national lotto bonus number draw. Ralph and wife Val will soon be leaving for a holiday in America, where they will tour various parts of the country including Las Vegas and culminating with a week-long Carribean cruise. Woodlands wishes them bon voyage.
A pool club championship is scheduled for the near future. An entry list is up so enter before 29 August. A pool competition will be held next Friday at 6pm.
Stud has already nominated himself favourite for both the competition and club championship. According to father in-law Dirk Venter, Chubbydale Greg Berry has uncharacteristically been behaving himself after being put on the straight and narrow by the old man himself. Trevor Hubbard has been diagnosed as suffering from an acute case of craft.
