Woodlands bowlers brush up their painting skills for work party

The first and second session went the way Ian O’ehley, Rusty Ruwers and Clive and Rene Honiball on 2+15.

AFTER a few last-minute cancellations, only 12 teams contested the monthly breakfast shirts and skirts at Woodlands Bowling Club on Sunday, 25 August.

Top dogs of the day were the combination of Peter Tayfield, Errol Pienaar, Brian Hollis and Ernie Lochner on 4+7.

The first and second session went the way Ian O’ehley, Rusty Ruwers and Clive and Rene Honiball on 2+15 along with Robin Grobbelaar, Jimmie Neill, William Richardson and Babara Neill on 2+12.

Jumbo Nel will be roasting the meat. Consolation chocolates were claimed by Gloria Rice skip, Jumbo Nel third, Val Mcaffrey second and John Ferguson lead. The 60/40 boards paid dividends to Rina Harper, who won the major share on the second board after picking up the minor money on the first board.

Errol Pienaar pocketed the R40 on the first board with Rosa Vincent settling for the rest on the second board. All Woodlands bowlers are reminded to take a paint brush to the work party scheduled for Saturday, 31 August starting at 10am, weather permitting. Gordon Voigt, Brian Kimber and Calvin Wepener picked the right numbers for Friday night’s meat draw and John Hardouin was present with his membership card to claim the R400 for the snowball. The numbers 4-10-11 and bonus nine produced another jackpot and bonus pool carryover in the lotto.

Danny Smith prevailed over a hapless Peter Jenkins to once again win the pool competition on Friday night. An innovative pool club championship has been introduced with the draw being posted in the main bar. They games to be played on or before 7 September are as follows: Anthony Smith vs Lesley Morrison, Danny Cross vs Peter Jenkins, Keith Nel vs Paul Conlon, Oom Jack vs Dennis Holloway, Keith Jenkins vs Rosa Vincent, Danny Smit vs JP Wessels, Dave Vincent vs Dave Leuchars and Trevor Hubbard vs Stuart Douglas. Please play your matches before stipulated deadline as it is planned for the semi finals and finals to take place on the Friday night.

Lesley Morrison’s name emerged first from the barrel in the Saturday swindle, for her to select the Kassler chops. Other winners were Dave Leuchars (2), Rosa Vincent, Dennis Tarboton (2), Gle de Wildt, Trevor Hubbard (2), Dawn Moore, Keith Hughes (2) and Rob de Wildt. Chubbydale Greg ‘’Ourang-utan’’ Berry has now taken up pole dancing but is also contemplating visiting North Borneo to visit his ancestors and family. Maybe they will explain to him how to find cars in the carpark. After retiring, John Picasso Campbell has become a resolute restorer of old walls, skirting boards, window frames, downpipes, carpeting and plumbing, while Carole looks on from her books and murmurs encouragement. He reckons it is playing havoc with his already dodgy bowling action, although his playing partners are somewhat sceptical. Happy birthday to Shannon who celebrated her birthday on Saturday with a spit braai at the club. After closely examining the pool draw, Stud predicts that Danny who has drawn in the same half as him hasn’t a leg to stand on, and he will meet Paul Conlon in the final, setting up a juicy war of the Scot against the Brit. He predicts that the ‘canny kilt and sporran canae lose’ although Trevor Hubbard reckons he won’t even see the second round.

Carole Lauderdale won the R150 national lotto bonus number draw.
