Delight as Wentworth Bowling Club greens re-open

Next week will see SC pensioners bowls on Tuesday, on Wednesday afternoon for the development bowls.

IT was a great feeling to have the greens opened once again at Wentworth Bowling Club.

The club is pleased to see so many people back and supporting it once again.

With the greens in superb condition, they were played on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

On Tuesday the SC pensioners was won by the team of Colin Coetzee, Martin Young and Fanie Vosloo with second prize going to Herbie Hoffman, Brian Hollis and Des Robarth.

The meat was taken by John Somerville and R40 on the board was carried off by Sean Sutherland and R20 went to Dave Vincent. Although members were pleased to see Dave and Smiler Wildsmith, the club regrets that wheelchairs will not be allowed on the greens until the end of December or beginning of January due to the rainy season. However, the club looks forward to their continue support and company on Tuesdays and Fridays. The entry fee of R5 on Tuesdays, which includes a hot dog, will hopefully ensure the support of pensioners. The format of the game will depend on the number of entries but it was a trips game last Tuesday.

The monthly Howes ur father which takes place on the last Wednesday of the month was won by Ken Kock and Colin Nicholas on a 4+11 with session prizes going to Keith Wild and Robbie Carr on a 2+6. Second session went to Andy Cloete and Des Robarth on a +7.

Willie Gericke walked off with both the first and second prizes on the 60/40 board and the club hopes Ina Davies enjoyed the rump steak from the raffle.

Friday casual bowls saw visitors walk off with all the prizes. The teams of Robbie Carr took first prize, Herbie Hoffman second and the sportsman’s prize went to Colin Howes, Joe McNamara and Brian Hollis. The pork raffle was won by Spider Williams and the beef by Robbie Carr. Des Robarth and Herbie Hoffman took the board prizes.

Saturday saw the finals of the Roley Taylor pairs between Hilton Lassak and John Somerville, which Hilton resoundingly won.

The afternoon saw the semi-final of the nominated pairs which was won by Bridget White and Gwen Tait.

Next week will see SC pensioners bowls on Tuesday, and development bowls on Wednesday afternoon. The annual pensioners Christmas lunch is on Friday, 13 December for all bowlers who have supported Tommy Cavenagh throughout the year.

The annual Boers versus Brits competition in traditional dress will be on Monday, 16 December and members and visitors are encouraged to put their names on the entry form on the board. It is hoped that this fun day can be combined with a potjie competition. See the board for details.
