Age proves the decider in Woodlands BC men’s drawn pairs

In the Men’s singles Dennis Holloway and Claude Bond went head to head with Dennis eventually winning 22 -20.

FIVE domestic matches were played at Woodlands Bowling Club on Saturday,11 January.

In the women’s round robin singles Rina Harper remained unbeaten when beating Gloria Rice 22-13 to land the title of Woodlands women’s singles champion for 2014. Congratulations to Rina who will now represent Woodlands in Port Natal champion of champions later in the year.

In the other match Lyn Carlyle raised her game to beat Linda Hewer 21–12. With one match still to be played, the runner-up is still to be decided.

In the men’s singles Dennis Holloway and Claude Bond went head to head with Dennis, eventually winning 22-20, while Andy Cloete had a relatively easy win over Alan Bower 21–15.

In the men’s drawn pairs, if combined ages decided the result Arthur Carlyle and Brian Kimber would have won by the proverbial mile but it was not to be, with the younger pairing of Dave Lloyd and Bryce Bower strolling to a comfortable win 25–12.

With the matches completed, the braai was enjoyed by all. Ivor Tobias, visiting for the braai, won both lucky number draws. Derek Botha completed a profitable festive season by firstly winning a car at a local casino and then having his number drawn in the monthly bowls 1,000 draw. The next breakfast skirts and shirts is scheduled for Sunday, 26 January.

The bowls section will run a bingo evening in the tabs room beginning on Wednesday, 26 February. The last lotto draw for the main club took place on Friday, 10 January as a must-be-won pool. After seven draws of three numbers, a bonus number, Dave Leuchars won the bonus pool. It then took another four draws of three numbers for Keith Hughes to win the jackpot pool.

Dave Vincent won the 150 National Lotto Bonus number draw.
