SuperSport confirm they won’t broadcast 2023 IPL

The 2023 edition of the popular competition starts in India on Friday.

Cricket fans, and especially those who follow the Indian Premier League, will have to find other ways to watch the 2023 edition of the popular Twenty20 tournament in India.

This after South African broadcaster SuperSport were unable to securing the rights to show the IPL this year.

It is the first time the IPL will not be shown in South Africa on the popular channel.

SuperSport said in a brief statement late Thursday that while they previously held broadcast rights “discussions with the rights holder have unfortunately been unsuccessful and SuperSport will therefore not broadcast the IPL as of this year’s edition.”

The 2023 IPL gets underway on Friday.

There have been 15 previous editions of the IPL. The defending champions from last year are the Gujarat Titans.

Sixteen South African cricketers, including rookie Dewald Brevis and former Proteas captain Faf du Plessis, will play in this year’s tournament.
