Alpha Pegasi to double up
Alpha Pegasi was all the rage in his last race over 1400m at Kenilworth and duly obliged.
IN TOP FORM. Alpha Pegasi won his last race with authority and can double up when he lines up in Race 6 over 1400m at Kenilworth today.
He lines up again in Race 6 at Kenilworth today, a MR 94 Handicap over the same course and distance and one can expect another impressive victory from the Justin Snaith-trained runner.
His last start was in a Graduation Plate and he was handicapped to win well so as a result he was not penalised at all for beating Spirit Of Hamilton by 1.75 lengths. The runner-up mounts another challenge against the four-year-old son of Captain Al and is 3.5kg better off, so on paper Mike Bass’ charge should be able to reverse the outcome. However, Alpha Pegasi had the race won a long way from home and jockey Greg Cheyne was gearing him down well before the line that the distance could have been quite a lot further had he needed it to be.
This time Bernard Fayd’Herbe takes the ride which should not have any significant impact on the outcome as both are top jockeys. The pair are perfectly positioned in barrier No 3.
Spirit Of Hamilton has to be the main danger. The four-year-old son of Argonaut was returning from a short rest last time and if he has no ill-effects from this being his second race after a layoff, the Exacta of Alpha Pegasi and Spirit Of Hamilton should be a good bet.
Spirit Of Hamilton at no stage looked as if he was going to catch the winner last time but one cannot totally ignore the weight turn around, especially as Grant van Niekerk jumps from No 2 draw.
