Fayd’Herbe, Ramsden to cement new relationship.

Trainers in Cape Town appear to be playing “musical jockeys” as a number of stable-jockey swops have come into play at the start of the new season.

With Karis Teetan plying his trade in Hong Kong this season, Glen Hatt has moved in as Brett Crawford’s first-choice jockey. Grant van Niekerk is No 1 in the Mike Bass yard, Richard Fourie has the top job with Justin Snaith, while Joey Ramsden will be giving Bernard Fayd’Herbe a try-out in that role. “We will see how things go but I have said to Bernard that he can have first choice of my runners and, if there is a ride for another stable that he thinks is going to win, he is free to take it,” Ramsden told Gold Circle.

Fayd’Herbe is a heavyweight rider so his options are restricted but the pair will join forces in Race 7 at Kenilworth today when they team up with Full Regalia in this MR 82 Handicap over 1800m for fillies and mares.

The five-year-old daughter of Captain Al is at her best over this track and strip with a record of two wins and one place from four starts. She had a break of just less than three months and returned in July and despite drifting in the betting, flew up late to finish a 0.70-length third behind Gypsy Madonna.

She will have benefited from that run and should be ready to score her fourth career win.

There are plenty dangers and topping that list could be Beulah from the Riaan van Reenen yard. She does have a slight preference for the Durbanville track but the five-year-old Badger’s Drift mare has run well enough at Kenilworth to be considered a contender.

She will be ridden by Girish Goomany, who claims a 4kg allowance, and that will aid her cause.

Dizzy Feet is an improving filly and last time out finished fourth in the race won by Gypsy Madonna, 0.75 lengths behind Full Regalia. This well be her third run after a layoff so the Glen Kotzen-trained filly should be at peak fitness. She will also enjoy the 200m drop in distance from her last start over 2000m.
