Get Snappy at Greyville

There are times when a horse goes through the divisions that you find yourself in a position to make money out of him.

That looks to be the case with Do Be Snappy at Greyville today when racing takes place on the Polytrack.

This four-year-old son of Miesque’s Approval joined Dean Kannemeyer’s satellite yard in Durban in November last year and has blossomed in his new surroundings. One of the reasons is he is thriving is that he is racing on the Polytrack, something he did not have when in Cape Town.

He has now raced four times on the surface for two wins and a 0.50-length second to Royal Armour and a fast-finishing 0.45-length fourth behind Translunar. He has been penalised 4.5kg for his two victories but there still appears to be a lot to come from the gelding.

Today he lines up in a MR 95 Handicap over 1600m, in Race 7, and although this is a jump in class, it also sees Do Be Snappy come into the race carrying just 53kg. That low weight should prove ideal and even though jockey Anthony Delpech puts up 0.5kg overweight, Kannemeyer’s charge looks to be a decent bet at what should be a reasonable price. He is nicely drawn at No 5.

The obvious danger is Cat In Command who is now 4kg better off for a 0.50-length loss to Do Be Snappy. However, Cat In Command has not won a race in over a year while there looks to be a lot more growth coming from Kannemeyer’s runner.

Mumsy’s Jet comes into the reckoning purely because he has a 4kg claimer up so he will carry 52kg. He is a front runner who will jump from barrier No 1 and as a result looks likely to try and steal the race from the jump.
