Springbok and Munster lock RG Snyman’s worst fears were realised on Monday when it was confirmed he had re-injured the ligaments that kept him sidelined for months last year and earlier this season, putting him out of rugby for another lengthy spell.
The 26-year-old hurt the ligaments in his knee in last weekend’s United Rugby Championship match against Scarlets.
Snyman lasted only a few minutes after coming on in the second half of his team’s win.

Munster confirmed the bad news on Monday afternoon, tweeting: “Very disappointing news for RG Snyman as it’s confirmed he has sustained a re-rupture of his cruciate ligament.”
Munster coach Johann van Graan said: “While this is a setback we know RG is young and resilient given everything he has gone through in the last year so there’s a strong sense of perspective.”
Snyman hurt the same knee ligaments while on debut for Munster last year, just months after he helped the Springboks to the World Cup at the end of 2019. He only returned to the field two weeks ago.
The towering lock also recently spent time out of the game after suffering burns from a fire pit incident, in which Bok team-mate Damian de Allende was, among others, also part of. Snyman had to under go skin grafts.
He also missed the recent 2-1 series win against the British and Irish Lions. It is expected that Snyman will now again spend between eight and 10 months on the sidelines.
