Former Pirates defender continues search for new club

Phungwayo has been without a club since parting ways with Stars last season after the club was relegated to the GladAfrica Championship.


Former Orlando Pirates and Free State Stars left-back Patrick Phungwayo, who is without a team at the moment is said to be looking for a team based in Gauteng after declining offers from outside the province.

Phungwayo has been without a club since parting ways with Stars last season after the club was relegated to the GladAfrica Championship.

“I don’t really know the real reason why he wants to be based here (Gauteng), but I think it might be because he wants to be close to his family. I mean, the guy had some offers from clubs outside the province and he didn’t take them. He spends a lot of time training. I think something might be coming up for him soon,” said a source.

Meanwhile, Pirates coach Rulani Mokwena has hinted that his future at the club is out of his hands following another defeat to Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby this past weekend.

Amakhosi edged the Buccaneers 3-2 in a dramatic derby at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
