Former player slams Pitso, defends Makaringe’s kasi flavour
Mabaso says Fortune Makaringe didn’t disrespect Mamelodi Sundowns by showing off some of his ball skills in Orlando Pirates’ 1-0 win on Wednesday night.

Fortune Makaringe became the talk of the day after doing some silky moves with less than 20 minutes to the end of the match at Orlando Stadium. The move, which had the Pirates fans cheering, had Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane agitated.

Mosimane showed his frustration by mimicking Makaringe’s move when the ball went out and went on to make hand gestures that showed that the score was just 1-0 yet the player was already showboating.
But former AmaZulu midfielder and now development coach at Orlando West Academy, Thabo “Ntshebe” Mabaso, commended Makaringe, saying it was brave of him to embrace the local way of playing at the top level.
“Pirates swidi wodwa (is all good). Dankie Buccaneers for embracing our way of playing Kasi flavour at its best. Some teams are bad losers and undermine other teams because of successnyana (of their small success).
“Who said we must respect opponents in a game of football when playing. Showing off that I am skillful is a sign of disrespect? Anifuni ukudliwa maan (You are sore losers). You lost accept it. Your European copy and paste is taking this country nowhere fast in football. Phakamani Mahlambi is one of Kasi flavour products (he is) dead because of (this) copy and paste, he has turned to a robot,” Mabaso wrote on Facebook on Thursday morning.
He also said that for Mosimane to say what Makaringe did was disrespectful was not right because he also disrespected Pirates by reducing their hard preparations for the game to just black magic effect.
“Orlando Pirates’ preparation towards the game was called a ghost (and) that’s disrespect to me not what Makaringe did. What Makaringe did is freedom of expression and game management the South African way not European way,” added Mabaso.
He also later posted a video showing Leo Messi doing a nutmeg on an opponent and said it was cheered but when local players do it, it is seen as wrong.
