Essien snubs Sundowns and SuperSport – report

Former Chelsea star midfielder, Michael Essien is reportedly snubbed two Premier Soccer League teams who were trying to lure him during the January transfer window.

A report carried by Isolezwe on Thursday quoted a source close to Essien’s agent as saying Essien was being lured to the PSL by mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United, but it seems unlikely he will agree because he has offers from China and Qatar.

“There was a local agent who was tasked with finding a team for Essien in the PSL and he spoke to Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United. But that move is now unlikely as he has offers from China and Qatar,” said the source.

The report also reveals that PSL new boys, Cape Town City were also keen on landing the 34-year-old Ghanaian and club owner, John Comitis was quoted admitting to enquiring about his availability.

“We did negotiate with his agent but we cut the talks because on hind sight we realised we had two players in his position and wondered if he was still capable of lasting 90 minutes,” Comitis was quoted as saying in the report.
