PSL issues another update on Kaizer Chiefs matter

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has given another update on the Kaizer Chiefs matter, which does not give much details about the two games that Chiefs missed after their appeal to postpone their games for December due to Covid-19 was denied by the League.

Amakhosi missed their clashes against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows after refusing to play citing the coronavirus outbreak at their headquarters in Naturena.
Chiefs then decided to show up for their tie against Sekhukhune United and more recently against Royal AM. But, it is fixtures against Cape City and Arrows that needs to be clarified, on whether Amakhosi will forfeit those matches and maximum points given to the two teams, or the games will be replayed.
“On the 2nd of December 2021, Kaizer Chiefs Football Club wrote to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) requesting “the postponement of all our matches for the month of December 2021. The PSL Football Department declined the application,” read the statement.
“Kaizer Chiefs referred the Football Department’s decision to the NSL Executive Committee for reconsideration and asked that the Executive Committee accede to the club’s request for the postponement of the club’s “remaining fixtures for the month of December. The Executive Committee afforded Kaizer Chiefs a full opportunity to provide information in support of their request.”
“Among other things Kaizer Chiefs were asked to demonstrate why, despite NSL Circulars no 12 of 2020; 24 of 2020; and 11 of 2021; exceptional circumstances existed to postpone all Kaizer Chiefs matches for the month of December in this instance.”
The association went on to state that the executive committee took advice of senior counsel, input from the league’s chief medical officer and representations from those potentially affected by the football department’s decision including Chiefs.
Furthermore, the PSL stated that they will hold a press conference on the matter only next year in January.
