'Ok they won the cup (Chiefs won the Nedbank Cup). But I think that was the only highlight in the season,' said the Bafana head coach.

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos issued a damning verdict on Kaizer Chiefs yesterday, as he left all of their players out of his final squad to take on Mozambique and Tanzania in friendlies next month.

Broos had named goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma, Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart and attacking midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala in his preliminary squad but none of them made the final selection.
Broos on Chiefs – ‘The rest was not so good’
“At the moment I can’t select players of Kaizer Chiefs, and I hope they make a better season next season,” Broos told reporters.
“Ok they won the cup (Chiefs won the Nedbank Cup). But I think that was the only highlight in the season of Chiefs.
“The rest was not so good.
“The supporters are happy now because they won the cup. But we have to be honest … it was not good. Otherwise a team like Chiefs is not number nine in the rankings.”
Chiefs finished the season in ninth place in the Betway Premiership, failing to qualify for the MTN8 for the second season in a row.
The embarrassment for Chiefs is particularly acute, given that there are no Mamelodi Sundowns players in this squad.
Sundowns players were allowed a leave of absence from Bafana as after Sunday’s Caf Champions League final second leg, they will start preparation for next month’s Fifa Club World Cup.
Orlando Pirates players dominate the 23-man squad, with nine Buccaneers players included.
Regulars Sipho Chaine, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Thalente Mbatha, Patrick Maswanganyi and Relebohile Mofokeng are joined by first time call-ups Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Deano Van Rooyen, Simphiwe Selepe and Mohau Nkota.
‘A big difference’
“I think we can really judge (the young) players now because they are playing for Bafana Bafana. We can’t do that when they plays in the PSL because there is a big difference between PSL and Bafana,” added Broos.

“If the young players impress me now, there is a chance they have a future in Bafana.”
