The Citizens confirmed the arrival of the 28-year-old South America acquisition on their social media accounts on Friday.

Zapata joins City from Venezuelan side CD Hermanos Colmenarez.

“Cape Town City is delighted to announce the club record transfer of Colombian forward Juan Camilo Zapata,” read a tweet from the club.

“A 4 year deal which sees the magician start in January 2023!”

According to transfermarkt, Zapata scored 19 goals in 35 games across all competitions in the Venezuelan Premier League last season.

As reported by Phakaaathi earlier, City could lose Khanyisa Mayo to Mamelodi Sundowns, who are believed to be preparing a R15-million offer for the forward.

It remains to be seen if City would accept that offer and Zapata’s arrival seems to suggest that they would and the South American will be Mayo’s replacement as they play similar positions on the field.
