Chippa coach Lentjies not woried about form ahead of Pirates encounter

The Chilli Boys are on a mission to get out of the relegation zone with the club sitting in 14th spot on the log.

Chippa United coach Kurt Lentjies says current form won’t count when they host Orlando Pirates in a DStv Premiership clash at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

The Chilli Boys are on a mission to get out of the relegation zone with the club sitting in 14th spot on the log after accumulating 26 points, three points ahead of bottom club Marumo Gallants with the season coming towards an end.

Lentjies’ troops have been battling to get positive results in their fight for survival, with the team registering two draws and three losses in their last five games.

Pirates, on the other hand, have been impressive with the Buccaneers securing four victories in their last five games. But the Chippa coach is not worried about what has transpired in their previous games and says the most important thing will be who comes out on top in their clash.

“It’s nothing to do with the form, once the referee blows the whistle at half past five all form or anything gets kicked out of the window, so it’s the 90 minutes that counts from there. The mood has been good in the camp after our game against SuperSport United,” said Lentjies.

“We played a team that’s second on the log. We walked away with a draw, but we actually felt that we could have done better, we could have got three points. But the mood is good and we are looking forward to the Saturday encounter.”

“We are playing Orlando Pirates, so we are not looking at form or anything, we are focussing at what we can control and what’s going to happen in the 90 minutes. The guys are positive and looking forward to the game.”

Surviving relegation is certainly Chippa’s main priority and Lentjies adds that they are aiming at winning all of their remaining fixtures.

“Our objective is to win every game, whether we are playing the champions or any of the other 15 teams in the league,” he concluded.

While Chippa are on a quest for survival on the league table, the Sea Robbers are aiming for a second place finish with the Soweto club currently in third spot with 40 points.
