Davids facing the axe at Maritzburg

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids is walking a tight rope at the team with club management said to be unsettled over the past few results.

The team of choice have gone nine matches without a win.

A source close to the team told Phakaaathi that the management have given Davids an ultimatum.

“They said if he doesn’t win the next two games (including Tuesday night’s match against Bloemfontein Celtic) they will have to hold a meeting with him. He has already lost to Celtic so he has only the next match to prove himself. But I would not be surprised if he were to be fired this weekend,” said the source.

Maritzburg chairman Farook Kadodia said they are still behind the coach and believe he has what it takes.

“We haven’t given anyone any ultimatum. We are working closely with the team to see how we can help. We want to give the coach a chance. The reality is that he has done well. We want him to be successful in his new career and we are fully behind him. Things have not been going well but he had a good start but now teams have realised we play through the middle and are stopping us,” said Kadodia.

Asked if Davids has the answers to the problems facing the team, Kadodia became a little defensive.

“What do you want me to tell you? Tell me so I can tell you. Let me tell you, what you are asking me is very uncomfortable. At the moment I am telling you, we are fully supporting the coach,” said Kadodia.
