Ex-Chiefs striker aiming for big comeback after injury

“The journey will surely be long and painful. But I never give up," says Bimenyimana.

Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, the former Kaizer Chiefs player, has opened up about a career-altering setback, labelling it as the most significant challenge he’s faced in his career.

The ex-Chiefs striker, while representing Burundi in the Afcon qualifiers against Cameroon last month, suffered an unfortunate knee injury.

This injury disrupted the 25-year-old’s much-anticipated debut for his new team, Al Ahli Benghazi, a football powerhouse in Libya.

Bimenyimana had joined the North African club on a free transfer after parting ways with the Chiefs at the beginning of the current DStv Premiership season.

For Bimenyimana, this injury represents the most significant setback he’s encountered in his career.

However, he’s heartened by the successful surgery that offers hope for his recovery.

His focus now turns to rehabilitation and a determined return to the field, stronger and better.

Sharing the positive update on his situation, Bimenyimana expressed his gratitude.

“Thanks to GOD! Surgery was successful today. A big relief that we have been able to get rid of this issue,” he wrote on his Instagram account.

“It is the biggest injury I have ever had. The journey will surely be long and painful. But I never give up.

“And I already think about coming back even stronger. I am now focusing on my recovery.

“I am feeling incredibly grateful and blessed for the amazing doctors and the whole (medical) staff for taking care of me during the surgery.

“I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU!. Also, a big shoutout to my incredible family and friends for their support.

“I’m so grateful to have you all in my life. See you soon on the field,” said Bimenyimana.

Bimenyimana looked promising at Chiefs

When he joined Chiefs, Bimenyimana looked to be a great find for the Naturena side who were desperate for a credible forward.

He made an immediate impact, scoring a few goals. The Burundian finished his first season with Amakhosi having netted eight times in 21 appearances.

He became famous for setting a record as the first PSL player to score a hat-trick of goals through the penalty spot in a league game.
