Hunt not amused with rules as SuperSport progress in Caf Cup

"It's very frustrating, I sat on the bench for the last 25 years and all of a sudden I can’t sit on the bench,” said a frustrated Hunt.

SuperSport United might have qualified for the group stages of the Caf Confederation Cup, however, Gavin Hunt is not amused that he had to watch his side from the stands.

Caf has made it mandatory for head coaches to at least have a Caf A Licence or a Pro Licence from other confederations while a Caf B licence is required for assistant coaches to sit on the bench.

Hunt, who currently holds a UEFA A Licence, is not eligible to be in the dugout during Caf’s inter-club competitions. Roscoe Krieling and Grant Johnson deputised for Hunt in the 3-0 win over Botswana’s Gaborone United last Friday.

“It’s very frustrating, I sat on the bench for the last 25 years and all of a sudden I can’t sit on the bench,” said a frustrated Hunt who has reportedly applied for a conversion of his UEFA A licence through a specialised course.

“I don’t know, it’s disappointing but we’ll try and get the conversion done or whatever I have to get done in November, so we’ll see. I don’t know why it has changed. I mean I’ve got a UEFA A License you know and I have been sitting on the bench. I was in the semi-final and quarter-final of the Champions League at (Kaizer) Chiefs two years ago and all the years at Wits and SuperSport I sat on the bench, played all the games and group stages and it was never a problem.

“But something happened, one association saying bugger you and the other one saying bugger you and I don’t know. That’s not my argument. That’s what’s happened I think.”

Etiosa Ighodaro’s second half brace and a strike by the evergreen Bradley Grobler was more than enough for victory as Matsatsantsa a Pitori took the tie 4-1 on aggregate.

“We looked a bit edgy at the start but I thought we played well.

“We scored two good individual goals from Ighodaro. It was a patched-up team with new players and some players haven’t really played.  So it was expected that we would run out of rhythm but the longer the game went on, we seemed to get better and the most important thing is that we got through,” Hunt concluded.
