Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has responded to rumours that head coach Nasreddine Nabi will be leaving the club at the end of the season.
This comes after the Sunday Times reported this past weekend that Chiefs will fire Nabi and his technical team.
OPINION – Now Chiefs need to build sustainable success
The report came a day after Nabi led Amakhosi to the Nedbank Cup triumph over rivals at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
Speaking to Xoli Zondo on 5FM on Monday morning, Motaung Jr dismissed the rumours, saying no decision has been made yet on Nabi’s future.
“Coach has got another season after this with us now,” said Motaung Jr.
“At the same time, like we do after every season, we sit down and review. We know that the results in the league have been inconsistent.
“We know that we’ve just been able to achieve a record milestone. With everything else, we’re moving forward in our planning.
“We want to savour this moment, massively view this moment moving forward. And galvanise the supporters, the technical team, the players, and the staff for the mission ahead. So, we’re just planning for the future.”
Will Nedbank Cup triumph save Nabi’s job?
Meanwhile, speaking after his side’s victory over Pirates, Nabi said that he was hoping that winning the Nedbank Cup would convince the Amakhosi fans that he is the right man to lead the club.

“My first objective for the club is to place Kaizer Chiefs back in its natural position. I’m happy for this trophy because it is going to help me continue my process, and it is going to give the fans a lot more confidence in this project,” said Nabi.
However, with Chiefs in danger of missing out on the top eight, it remains to be seen if the club’s hierarchy will decide to keep him for next season or terminate his contract.
