Khune hopes to play 500 games for Chiefs

Having played 300 game for the Kaizer Chiefs, Itumeleng Khune has set new targets for himself at Amakhosi Soweto giants.

Khune reached the milestone in 11 seasons at Chiefs after he joined the senior team from the club’s development structures.

Thabo Mooki, Simphiwe Tshabalala and Brian Baloyi have all played over 300 games for Kaizer Chiefs.

“It is a great feeling to have reached my 300 mark, I am happy but I am not satisfied, I think I could have played more games for the club maybe 500 or more if it wasn’t for injuries. Not that I am competing or I want to break records, but I just want to continue doing what I love which is to play football,” said Khune.

“I joked yesterday (Wednesday) and said I am left with nine more seasons. I said 300 matches and 700 to go, but mathematically I can’t, if it wasn’t for injuries I would have played 400 or 600 games already.”

Khune believes he can play until he is 40-years-old, having turned 31 last year.

The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper still hopes to win a Caf Champions league medal with Amakhosi before he retires.
