Komphela: I would fire myself
Steve Komphela has shouldered the bulk of the blame for Kaizer Chiefs’ poor season that saw Amakhosi finishing the season fourth and without a trophy.

Speaking to members of the media in his last press conference of the season at the FNB Stadium after the Glamour Boys beat Absa Premier League champions Bidvest Wits, Komphela admits he has not done enough to justify why he should stay on as Chiefs coach.
The former Free State Stars mentor has had two poor seasons with the Soweto giants failing to win any silverware despite reaching two cup finals in the 2015/16 season.
““If the question is do I think I deserve to stay on as the coach? Then I have to be careful with my response, lest I fire myself,” said Komphela.
“I can’t bring any excuses. I have to accept the status quo, go back and try to rectify. Looking at all the four cup competitions, we lost and drew games in a manner that you will not understand, conceding last minute goals. These are all the things that you look at and say that people deserve better, we can do better than this.”
Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung has already came out in support of Komphela, saying he deserved to see out the remainder of his contract with the club.
