Komphela says Chiefs’ loss didn’t cause Moses Mabhida violence
Coach Steve Komphela says the chaos that erupted at Moses Mabhida when Kaizer Chiefs lost to Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup semifinal was not directed at him.

Komphela believes the violence and pitch invasion by disgruntled fans were not as a result of Amakhosi’s poor performance.
“Football is a microscopic reflection of how society thinks, the ills that you see in society are reflected in football. When they fight at Mabhida, it might have not been as a result of the loss, but a result of how society thinks,” Komphela told the Metro FM’s Fresh breakfast show.

“Forget about Mabhida, look at what is happening now as you watch the news, it is not Mabhida, it is now society in action. But then football must then be used as a vehicle to change society.
“During apartheid football was an instrument for change, let’s use football now for change.”
