Larsen: We defended poorly and were duly punished

Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen has blamed fatigue for his side's defeat at the hands of Bidvest Wits.

Larsen believes the gruelling match against Mamelodi Sundowns over the weekend took the fire out of his squad.

Arrows dumped Sundowns out of the Nedbank Cup with a 1-0 victory. Mogakolodi Ngele scored twice to extend the home team’s lead after striker Gabadinho Mhango opened from the penalty spot. The victory sees the Clever Boys return to the top of the log.

“A poor performance by the recent displays we have been giving. We were flat from the first whistle, largely due to having put in such a huge effort 3 days earlier,” Larsen told the club’s website.

“A few questionable decisions on the night, though I honestly don’t think we did enough to get anything out of the game. We defended poorly and were duly punished.

“We need to quickly pick ourselves up for a massive game against Ajax on Saturday as we continue to fight for our place in the top8.”
