Maritzburg targeting 30 points

The Team of Choice are just four points from reaching their target.

Maritzburg United interim coach Fadlu Davids says they have set a target of 30 points to stay in the top eight after returning to take charge of the team following the resignation of Roger De Sa at the club last month.

The Maritzburg coach managed to get maximum points in his first game against Ajax Cape Town but went on to lose to Orlando Pirates last Wednesday at the Orlando Stadium.

“We set ourselves a target to get to 30 points in our first four games; we played two now and we got three points. We need another four; we want to reach the 30-point mark as soon as possible. We don’t want to be thinking too far, we want to take it game by game. Taking this loss, analysing it and going forward,” said Davids.

With a host of youngsters in his squad, the Maritzburg coach says he doesn’t want to set big targets for his players and has struck a good balance between experienced and younger players.

“These are young players, you don’t want to put a big target and make them lose their focus. Let us focus on the next game and our small target, which is the 30 points, then we will take it from there.”

With David’s team just four points away from reaching their short-term target, the Team of Choice will be looking to get maximum points in their next two fixtures against a struggling Baroka FC side on Friday at the Harry Gwala Stadium, before taking on Chippa United.
