Former Bafana striker set for Pirates exit

Zakhele Lepasa looks set to leave Orlando Pirates at the end of the season following a campaign where he failed to make a single competitive appearance. 

The 28-year-old striker has been completely frozen out of the first team, missing out on action in the Betway Premiership, domestic cup competitions, and the Buccaneers’ CAF Champions League campaign.

Lepasa was previously on loan at SuperSport United during the 2022/23 season, where he showed glimpses of his old form. 

However, injury setbacks and increased competition have seen him fall down the pecking order, with Tshegofatso Mabasa and Evidence Makgopa preferred up front under former coach José Riveiro.

The forward was linked with moves to SuperSport United and Polokwane City during the last transfer window, but no deal materialised.

Now, sources close to the Mgosi squad indicate that Pirates are ready to part ways with the forward as they prepare for the new season. 

Lepasa is believed to be part of a group of players that Miguel Timm, who are expected to be offloaded during the off-season.

It’s believed that a move away from Orlando Stadium could offer Lepasa the chance to revive his career. It’s not yet clear how long has left on current deal, but all signs point to an imminent departure.
