Khune says Sundowns fans are ‘attacking’ him following Onyango’s win

The Bafana keeper says accusations that he is jealous are false and shares his past achievements.

The Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper had a busy Friday morning defending himself against critics who said he was not the best in the game.

Khune’s criticism comes following Ugandan international and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango’s victory as he was named in CAF’s 2018 African Best XI, alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Onyango took to social media to celebrate his achievement and said it was a good start to his year.

However, his achievement divided soccer fans, who said Khune should have won the accolade. Though some have accused Khune of being jealous of Onyango, he said it was false as he had congratulated him.

“What more should we do?” he asked.

An exchange of words between Khune and Masandawana Fan Vlog on Twitter resulted in the keeper posting a picture of his past accolades to prove he was good at what he does.

Masandawana Fan Vlog said: “You can bring all [your] man of the match and GK of the season awards but they’ll never fill the void of Denis winning CAF Player of the year based in Africa for 2016, CAFCL and CAF Team of the year Isaac. You can try though.”

Khune said he was being disrespected by those who were questioning his talent, but the Vlog insisted Khune was the one disrespecting himself.

“Nothing you’ve won has the same weight and prestige Denis has won. Man has five league titles, a CAFCL, SuperCup. Without the individual accolades, you’re still coming short.”

Khune said he did not know why he was being attacked by Sundowns fans when he said nothing negative about Onyango.

“Masandawana are attacking me, I don’t know why. Masandawana stop hating, we are a big happy family/country and we support @masindeonyango on his achievement. Let us celebrate him without comparing to any GK in the SA,” he said.

Khune sustained a shoulder injury during the festive season and is expected to be out for four months.
